Three Iran films to vie in US

Three Iranian films are to compete at the Asian World Film Festival (AWFF) in Los Angeles, California, the US.

‘Breath’ directed by Narges Abyar, Anahid Abad’s ‘Yeva’ and ‘Yellow’ by Mostafa Taqizadeh are the films that are to be screened at the US festival.

The story of ‘Breath’ begins in the late 1970s in a suburb of Karaj, where Bahar, Nader, Kamal and Maryam live with numerous colorful dreams of their childhood along with their father and granny. The mother of the household, however, has died a few years ago.

The father, who suffers from asthma, works for a shoemaking company. In her dreams, Bahar, who narrates the story of the film, wishes to treat him when she becomes a doctor.

Iranian actors and actresses Gelare Abbasi, Mehran Ahmadi, Jamshid Hashempour, and Shabnam Moqaddami star in ‘Breath’.

‘Yeva’, a woman who is under prosecution in connection with her husband’s murder, faces challenges in her life, the movie synopsis read.

The flick stars many recognized actors and actresses from Armenia such as Narine Grigoryan and Shant Hovhannisyan.

‘Yellow’ features Iranian actors such as Bahram Radan, Sareh Bayat, Mehrdad Sediqian, Bahareh Kianafshar, Shahram Haqiqatdoust, Alireza Ostadi, Hossein Mehri, Anahita Dargahi, Morteza Taqizadeh, Amir-Ali Nabavian and Ali Salehi.

The synopsis of ‘Yellow’ reads, “We are strange people... Our present is very different to our future.”

The AWFF brings the best of a broad selection of Asian World cinema to Los Angeles in order to draw greater recognition to the region's wealth of filmmakers, strengthening ties between the Asian and Hollywood film industries.

The event is to be held from October 25 to November 02, 2017, in the US.
